Begin your journey to becoming a solicitor or barrister, or advance your legal knowledge for many roles in business, finance and public service. Develop key transferable skills that can take you far, whichever career path you choose.
Our LLB (Hons) Law is designed to ensure you can acquire all the legal knowledge needed to prepare you for a career as a solicitor or barrister. It looks to give you the foundations of law knowledge to proceed towards the preparing for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam route into the solicitor profession or Bar Standards Boards (BSB) route to becoming a barrister in England and Wales. But if you hope to use your interest in law for a different career, such as business or policy making, our LLB (Hons) will help you develop key transferable skills, including critical thinking and problem-solving, that can broaden your options.
Our modules blend the academic with the practical. Employability is a key focus in our approach to the study of law. For example, already in your first year we start your training in developing transferable skills valued by all employers of graduates. In the second year of your degree, you will also have the option to take up work experience with a local law firm and use your analytical and reflective skills to investigate your own future career options.
This combination of professional and academic law is reflected in our staff team, which consists of practising solicitors as well as research-active academics. You will always find someone to talk to, whether it’s about the course, your career or more personal matters.
We work actively to improve your career prospects. Our personal tutor system will offer you structured support, and we have a dedicated law employability champion as well as faculty employability staff. You can also take part in our mentoring scheme, to get first-hand advice and guidance from a legal professional.
Outside of the course, you will find more help and advice at our careers events, and through the Student Union’s Law Society, who arrange entry to competitions such as the national Mooting and Client Interviewing competitions as well as guest speakers and field trips.
