Enterprise awareness week success
Some of the comments say it all. Informative, Inspirational, Memorable, Very useful, insightful.
The Enterprise Hub, in collaboration with Employability, hosted an ambitious event series, offering daily lunchtime sessions over six days. The first three sessions were held on the 3rd floor, followed by two sessions on the 6th floor of the Import Building in East India, with a final session held at the Farringdon Building.
The result was an event that was a great success, with so many students taking time from their lunch to engage in the sessions. Engage they did, as a large number of students attended with notepads and laptops to ensure they were able to capture information that would help them on their entrepreneurship journey.
Throughout the event, several key topics that the enterprise students had expressed in their feedback were important to them were explored.
Day 1: Monday saw Michelle open the event to over 55 students, advising would be entrepreneurs on how to research and validate their proposed business idea, target market, segmentation, and how to position themselves.
Day 2: Reza and Austin delivered an insightful presentation on business finance, with an emphasis on budgeting, pricing, and costing.
Day 3: Jolanta offered advice to students on how to spot and take advantage of potential opportunities and turn them into concepts. Jolanta was joined by Honours Accounting alumni, Ediola Gjikdhima, who recently launched a bookkeeping and business support service with the support of Enterprise Hub. Ediola gave students the benefits of her research into various levels of financial support offered by a number of local authorities.
Day 4: On Floor 6, Ben Parkinson delivered Part 2 of the marketing session on digital marketing, picking up on where Michelle left off with an exciting and insightful look and advice into the world of digital marketing.
Day 5: On Floor 6, Carol Callinan offered some inspiring insights into freelance benefits while developing skills to give entrepreneurs greater flexibility.
Nearly 300 enterprising students attended over the first five days, some of whom attended all five sessions!
Day 6: Held at Charterhouse, I have discussed the importance of identifying and validating business opportunities, and the importance of starting a business while still working. Ardavan Amini inspired attendees by giving an overview of his entrepreneurial journey and emphasised the importance of research, networking, and integrity in entrepreneurship.
All the materials shared during the sessions, along with the recordings, are available on the VLE under the Enterprise Hub tab.
I would like to thank all the students who attended and the Enterprise team of speakers for lending their support and time. I would also like to thank the academics for their continued support in promoting the events to the students. This is a very important source of contact for the Enterprise Hub, long may it continue.
A special mention to Martina and the Marketing team, who have been an integral part of the continued success of the Enterprise Hub.
