Approximately 350 graduates crossed the stage to complete their academic journey and formally graduate in the latest round of Graduation Events held at Chelmsford Cathedral last week. Spread over four events shared with other university faculties, the Cathedral proved once again a stunning medieval venue to mark this centrepiece of achievement for all concerned. Applauded by a full stage of academics travelling to celebrate alongside their students, the cathedral glittered in the winter sunshine.
Each Ceremony began with the resplendent sight of the academic procession to the wonderful sound of the live musicians serenading the platform party to the stage. With the academic staff following the academic Macebearer reaching the stage, the University Mace led the Vice-Chancellor's party of senior academics including the Academic Registrar, Vice-Chancellor and Principal into the Cathedral. With the Ceremony in session, the Vice Chancellor delivered an overview of the students and university's achievements, before the Principal announced each graduate by name to the stage, which they crossed stopping briefly to doff their mortarboard to the Vice Chancellor; all to rapturous applause. A senior academic delivered a motivational lecture in the middle of each Ceremony, and one of the graduates a vote of thanks at the end; all of which added to the celebratory atmosphere. Finally, the Vice Chancellor called all graduates present to stand and be formally admitted to the society of scholars and enter the next stage of their lives.
Graduated students followed the academic procession from the Cathedral before receiving final congratulatory applause from the academic staff on exiting. This formal event was followed by much celebration, with mortarboard throwing, flower presenting, hugs and yells of happiness. Each event concluded with drinks, photos and gift bags in the University premises. Once again, these proved wonderful events, and an opportunity to show our pride of each and every one of the wonderful ARUL graduates of 2023. Watch the highlights here on our social media.
