Last Thursday, on the 11th of May, the Employability and Enterprise team held the LinkedIn Workshop, the first of a series of workshops designed to help our level 6 and 7 students and recent alumni develop or upgrade their employability skills and build up their presence on a professional platform.
The LinkedIn Workshop was conducted by our two expert Careers Consultants, Yas Kojouri and Maria Barden, who explored in more detail some of the features of LinkedIn, such as personal branding and how to build a strong profile that looks appealing to potential employers, the importance of networking and how to grow your network of connections, and the critical role of recommendations and endorsements.
The workshop conducted three interactive activities, which gave all participants the chance to practise, in real time, what had just been explained to them, while the Employability and Enterprise team were on hand, helping and advising them in the process.
At the end of the workshop, each participant got a professional headshot to include in their – updated and shiny – LinkedIn profile, as well as the opportunity to network over some light refreshments.
The feedback from the participants was great: they loved the knowledge provided to improve their LinkedIn profiles, the tips on how to highlight their skills and qualifications, and how to grow their network. They also enjoyed the focus on how to get endorsements and recommendations, topics with which the majority of participants were not familiar.
The step-by-step explanation for ‘beginners’, delivered in a clear and on-point way, as well as the ‘hands-on’ approach with the interactive activities along with the help of our friendly and approachable professional staff, was also rated as particularly useful.
Overall, it was a successful event, and we are looking forward to replicating it very soon!
