Training for students
We’re committed to creating a safe and respectful community. All students will receive clear information about what harassment and sexual misconduct is, what behaviour is expected of you and how we handle any issues at ARUL.
You’ll also learn about the ways you can report concerns and access support. This will be introduced during the 2025/26 academic year. During your studies you’ll be invited to complete a mandatory training module that includes information about:
- ARUL’s approach, policies and procedures.
- Consent, including what does and does not count as consent.
- The skills and knowledge to be an active bystander against harassment and sexual misconduct.
This is a mandatory training course for all students but we understand that anyone who has experienced sexual misconduct and harassment might want to ‘opt out’.
Training for staff
We make sure that when you tell any ARUL staff member about an incident of harassment and sexual misconduct, you’ll receive appropriate information about the support and reporting options available to you.
All our staff complete mandatory training about harassment and sexual misconduct, including how to manage disclosures from students, reporting and support options and understanding ARUL’s policies and approach.
Staff in front facing roles such as our Security Staff, Student Advice and Support staff receive extra training which is relevant to their roles. All staff can request bespoke training depending on their role, which will be delivered within the relevant academic year.
All investigators of student harassment and sexual misconduct cases have had specialist training due to the nature of their role, and all decision makers, including disciplinary panel members have received appropriate training for the role.
